MA scène nationale is a public performing arts centre in Pays de Montbéliard, part of France’s national network of scènes nationales. For the 2025-2026 season it programmes theatre, dance and music for a broad regional audience, from subscribers who follow the whole season to people coming for a single show. I was the sole designer for the season, responsible for the identity and all of its communication from concept to final production.
The starting point was not a blank page. The season image is a work by the Spanish artist Rafael Doctor Roncero, built from a photograph of Alaska by Álvaro Villarrubia. The theatre was already working with Roncero, so instead of imposing a separate design concept we decided to let his image carry the season and build the identity around it. My task was to turn one strong image into a system that could stretch across very different shows and formats without losing coherence.
I built that system on a clear typographic structure, a defined grid and a fixed hierarchy for titles, dates and credits, so the identity holds together whether it sits next to Roncero’s image or next to a production’s own photography. Working with the programming and production teams, I produced the season brochure, posters in several formats displayed across Montbéliard to promote individual shows, a range of communication materials, and the digital side, updating the website and carrying the identity across social media.
The result is one recognisable season identity, used in print throughout the city and online, flexible enough to promote a full and varied programme while still reading as a single voice.
